An altar for Black lives

The Black Lives Matter marches all around the world earlier this year have rebrought to the fore the need for action and justice for Black Lives. In its toolkit for healing justice & direct action, Black Lives Matter have suggested actions such asw altar building as a way to deal with trauma in communities and foster healing. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the isolation that was warranted by lockdown measures, I worked on a altar combining found things I gathered around my neighborhood. The following images shows my process of altar building.

For me there is a great potential for healing in nature. This altar is part of a feminist practice, and in this particular  instance to remember african women who have fought to love and to live.
